Hi! My name is Bri Anna, I'm 15 and I am homeschooled. I'm signed up with a mailing list called "The Learning Kingdom" and I saw your website and I found it to be very interesting. While I was here I was looking at some of your comments on the bulletin board and liked the very much so I thought you could help me with a question that I had...anyone can reply. I cannot tell you how greatful I am for this bulletin board thing! You know how you watch those talk shows on t.v. and they do lie detector tests on people that might be cheating on there spouses? So after that I thought that these things were kind of cool and that maybe they could use them for more useful things. I don't see why the don't use them in the Court Of Law more often! I would think it would be a great way to find out who commited what crime. You would think that this would be very good evidence to put someone in jail! (like a murderer, kidnapper ect...) I have heard that this divice is 99.9% correct is that so? Or do they just say that? So if any of you have any information about this topic please e-mail me or post it on the bulletin? I would like to know more.

Thanks,
Bri Anna

Bri Anna,

Your comments are very insightful. I agree with you that courts should rely more on polygraph evidence.

Scientific research has shown that the polygraph is 96% accurate...far more accurate than many other types of evidence, such as eyewitness testimony. Federal courts have begun to take a closer look at polygraph testing, since it is receiving more support from the scientific community. Many of us hope that this kind of evidence will be used more routinely in court trials.

Thanks very much for your comments.

hi briana... i testify in court on test results about six times a month. however, the testimony is before a judge and rarely before a jury..most courts are afraid polygraph testimony will unduely influence a jury. polygraph examiners ask the questions lawyers dont want to hear.."did you do it."

more and more courts are using polygraph testing to monitor the behavior of convicted criminals. on going reseach in colorado and missouri indicate the testing process reduces the recvicisim rates..most people dont commit crimes if they expect to get caught. polyraph testing increased the probability the offender will get caught

best wishes
