I was asked to conduct a
polygraph examination on a veteran police officer accused of molesting
his 11 year old son. The investigating agency stated the son had a long
documented history of making up allegations against his parents. The
investigating agency felt this may be just another false allegation
and felt a polygraph test would clear the officer. The officer was a
community leader, youth mentor and an elder in his church.
In the pre-test interview, I noticed the officer did not have any of
the correct answers you would expect from a truthful subject.
I conducted the examination and found the officer to be deceptive. After
several hours of interrogation, the officer admitted to molesting his
11 year old son. He was taken into custody and was subsequently terminated
from his agency.
After the trial, it took the jury less than an hour to convict the officer.
When the jury was questioned, they said it was the video taped interview
of the post test polygraph exam that convinced them of the officer's
guilt.
Last month, a Judge sentenced the officer. The judge had the option
of probation, all the way up to 16 years in prison. She gave him the
full 16 years in prison.
The victim now lives out of state with his biological mother and is
doing well.
Without the polygraph examination and subsequent confession from the
officer, this victim would continue to be molested today.
