Think all polygraph testing is the same? Think again.

Let me give you the straight scoop: Polygraph testing techniques – and examiners' abilities – vary widely.

  • Are you facing a high-stakes situation?
  • Are you a nervous person who's afraid you might fail a polygraph even though you're truthful?

It's important that you chose an examiner with the right combination of education, experience and expertise. Most important, before you put your future in the hands of a "qualified" polygraph examiner, ask him (or her) these critical questions:

  • Is your technique supported by a field study accepted by the National Academy of Sciences in its 2003 report on polygraph?
  • Is your polygraph technique supported by peer-reviewed published research involving confirmed real-life cases?
  • Does your polygraph technique contain an inherent safeguard against false-positive and false-negative results?
  • Does your technique use accuracy-enhancing sophisticated scoring rules rather than dumbed-down basic scoring rules?
  • Is your polygraph technique inherently resistant to countermeasures?

There are many polygraph examiners out there with impressive-sounding credentials and glamorous backgrounds, but only a few can meet the rigorous professional standard described above. Selecting a polygraph examiner is a big decision. I understand your concerns and am always happy to discuss whether a polygraph test is appropriate for your individual situation. Please feel free to call or email me with your questions. Don't worry, there is never a charge for phone or email consultations.
