Polygraph Chat Room

New Countermeasures Website
back to article index

Hey Guess What? There is a new, "How to Beat the
Polygraph by Using Countermeasures Written by Ex-
Polygraphists and Voice Stress Clowns Who Couldn't
Cut the Mustard and Sell to Unsuspecting Fools Who
Don't Realize That Real Polygraphists Read This
Garbage, Too," website. I don't know why someone
taking a voice stress test would need to buy this
since they have a 70% of passing it if they are
lying, anyway. Isn't that a surprise? As we might
expect, there is "no honor among thieves".

These "experts" are undercutting Doug Williams by $20
or more. You'd think they would charge more since
they "claim" to have more experience than Dougy. Of
course, he, according to him, ran 6,000 polygraph
examinations in 6 years which didn't even leave him
time for "potty breaks" unless he used them to create
that stuff he sells on his website. These people
claim to be well-known polygraphists, which may be
true - am sure they are the most well-known
polygraphists in their own homes but not the
polygraph profession. I've been in the field for 30
years and never heard of them, but then that doesn't
mean much - they probably never heard of me either.
Since they undercut Williams in their "book" price,
they probably undercut fees of hardworking
polygraphists in the Northwest down to $75 pre-
employments or $150 specific issue tests as well.

If you have seen their website which is found
at(www.passapolygraph.com), they quote Richard Nixon
on the use of polygraphy. Now there is a pillar of
truth that I'd want to be representing my website and
"truth" product. Please don't get me wrong, I voted
for him twice (Hey, I was young), and I was not all
that aghast over the Watergate affair. The only
difference between him and a lot of other Presidents
was that he got caught. He should have just admitted
it and continued running the country. Unfortunately,
the good and/or great things he did for this country
will be overshadowed in history by the air of
dishonesty surrounding him and his Presidency.

Let's face it, though, George Washington never told a
lie; Bill Clinton never told the truth and Richard
Nixon never knew the difference. Bill Clinton did,
however, leave us with a new definition of sexual
intercourse and a way to make cigars more flavorful.

Concerning the document, it has little more to say
than Williams' "Sting" program. I guess these people
figured that they'd get rich by going over to the
dark side. They claim that the polygraph doesn't
work, which was probably true when they were running
polygraph examinations. Either they couldn't
properly develop questions, especially comparison
questions, or couldn't conduct a proper pre-test
interview, or couldn't read the data produced by the
examinee. So "Eureka", the polygraph doesn't work.
It certainly, like Williams, couldn't possibly be
anything else like maybe they were incompetent and/or
did not involve themselves in continuing education
efforts or whatever.

Based upon some of the information that they have
published, I question whether they ever received
accredited polygraph training to begin with or they
got their training in the 1940's, and that's all they
ever received.

The acquaintance tests that they explained will be
used, probably haven't been used by any ethical
polygraph examiners in 25 years (using a deck of
marked cards). They also explain three categories of
"control" questions:

Non-relevant controls (basically norm questions
involving ridiculous subject matter; e.g., "Do you
snore"?, "Is the sky blue"/, etc.);

Intentional Lie "controls' (patterned around directed
lie controls as taught by voice stress operator
training;

"Stunner" "controls" (patterned after what I was
trained in as "Reaction-Evoking" questions used at
the end of an otherwise non-deceptive chart to see if
the examinee was even capable of reacting when doing
a Relevant-Irrelevant type testing technique).

It is obvious from reading their "expert" information,
they have little command of any modern control/comparison
question knowledge or any current psychophysiology
information, modern chart interpretation/test data
analysis information, or current countermeasures
information. Basically, their program will probably make
it easier for us to identify the liars that they are
"training".

The danger, of course, as Jack Consigli pointed out
last year during the discussions with AntiPolygraph.com
in this newsletter, an inexperienced or poorly-educated
(meaning lack of continuing education) polygraphist doing
sex offender testing might be fooled by an examinee who
will then be allowed to continue to molest and rape
children.

This could happen because many persons with little or
no investigative experience or law enforcement
experience but who hold a baccalaureate degree are
graduating from basic polygraph training, and moving
right into post-conviction sex offender training
courses, and from there, with little or no actual
polygraph testing experience at all, are moving right
into polygraphing post-conviction sex offenders who
are generally the most accomplished liars and users
of countermeasures that we deal with. Maybe they can
console themselves with the fact they are making
money at the expense of little children being
molested. It is something that I'm sure their
children would be proud of when they get their
fathers to come to their schools for "My Daddy's
Occupation Day". (Of course they will probably hide
that well from their children).

In summary, if you haven't read the document which
you probably should (have 20 fellow examiners pitch
in a dollar so these guys don't get much) or have
your association purchase it for their archives, and
they don't violate the copyright laws as long as each
member of the group or association make only one copy
for personal use or just be allowed to read it at
meetings. It really makes Doug Williams actually look
like he might know something about polygraphy. Of
course, these guys are more versatile since they also
explain how to "beat" the "claimed" 100% accuracy of
the voice stress boxes. Anyway, have fun reading
this one and catching the morons who try to use it.
