Limestone, the new kids on the block are growing up
an interview by Ralph Hilliard

An interview with Jamie Brown, President of Limestone
Technologies
----------------------------------------------------------

Jamie, I can hardly believe it has been an entire year
since I interviewed you last year and Limestone was just
getting started as the New Kids on the block, selling
polygraph instruments. I imagine you've been promoting
the instrument and have been on the road a lot?

Absolutely, we've had such an enthusiastic response to
the Polygraph Professional Suite that we have done more
traveling than ever before. We have presented at a
variety of places including UC San Diego for a research
project, AAPP in Vancouver, the Canadian Security
Intelligence Service, the Maine Polygraph Association
and the Federal Interagency Polygraph Seminar.

I know that every new product faces some challenges, what
have some of your challenges been in this first year?

Ahh yes, Growing Pains! We have had to upgrade our
facilities every quarter because of accelerating growth.
We set a standard for ourselves to be able to fill any
size Purchase Order within 7 business days and to do
that, we have needed to expand available inventory and
our facilities.

In addition, we have also dedicated more resources to
customer support and ongoing product development.

One of the other challenges that I'm glad to see we
faced and were able to overcome is having the product
accepted and recognized by various government agencies
such as DoDPI, FBI, U.S. Army, etc. Because Polygraph
Professional Suite is a new product, many people
believed that we were new to the business. We have had
to demonstrate our track record since 1989 of developing
leading-edge data acquisition software/hardware.

Finally, our customers have provided us with invaluable
feedback to improve our software. At the end of the day,
implementing these ideas and suggestions makes our
products an even better value for our clients.

What would you say is your unique angle in capturing
some market share in the future of polygraphy?

"If we build it, they will come."

What do you mean by that?

Well, some polygraph examiners have been waiting for an
alternative and, for these folks, the alternative has
finally arrived. We are building our business by
listening to our clients and acting on their concerns.
Adhering to this principle means we will continue to
benefit from the word of mouth of satisfied customers.
Customer support will always be our number one priority
since it is key to our acceptance and growth.

What is the basis on which you decide what new features
will be included in each new release of your product?

100% Client requests. For instance, we are now at work
developing better report templates that will allow the
examiner to prepare and submit findings in a
standardized format that is easy to comprehend. This
was a request of a client and so we went to work on it.

We are also continuing to research the Pupilometry
paradigm to determine whether quantifying such data
might assist in detecting deception or counter measures.
If successful, we would integrate this functionality
in an upgraded version of Polygraph Professional Suite.

What are the features that define the Limestone Instrument
as truly unique?

We have several. For example, we allow for presentation
of visual and audio stimuli. Any digital A/V format can
be easily presented to the examinee using the same
method as is used to ask a question (i.e. pressing the
spacebar).

Thanks to recent innovations in data acquisition
semiconductors, our digital instrument is capable of
approaching analog quality signal representation by way
of implementing the 16-bit analog to digital conversion.

Another important feature that we have incorporated is
an industry standard USB computer connection. This is
all the more important since many of today's laptops
and desktops have abandoned the serial port interface.

Finally, ChartSync video synchronization is another
feature available only from Limestone. This innovation
allows digital video to be synchronized with human
physiological responses recorded during an examination.
This feature is extremely powerful for monitoring
unobserved counter measures during a polygraph
examination.

What has been the overall response from the industry to
your product?

Our innovation and ideas have been well received by
both examiners and by our competitors who have patterned
changes to their own instruments based on our
innovations. The polygraph industry has clearly
benefited by our leadership. I'm sure most examiners
would agree that Polygraph Professional Suite has raised
the bar and initiated change for the better.

And how about the new clients you've gained this year,
are they satisfied?

Very much so. We have always been confident that we
would be well received in the marketplace because of
our innovative products. However, we have discovered
that it's our service that is especially well-received
by our clients.

We hear from our clients that they love their
"Limestone" and the prompt attention given to their
requests for help. Even if clients do not contact us, we
make it our policy to keep in touch with them. We're
proactive in seeking out ideas and suggestions from our
clients because we count on customer feedback to develop
better products.

I know that what I've really enjoyed about "my Limestone",
is that the software updates are readily available online
and they are super easy to install. Just before a test,
I found out you had an update. I went to the support site,
downloaded and installed the update and was ready for my
test in just minutes with the new features available to
me. Kudos to you.

Jamie, do you have any final comments for our readers?

Just that we are striving to be accessible, friendly,
and co-operative. In large measure, Polygraph
Professional Suite is the success it is because of
suggestions made by examiners from around the globe.
This free exchange of information and insight makes
for a mutually beneficial business to business
relationship for all concerned.

Thanks so much for your time. If our readers want to
meet you in person this year, do you have a list of
seminars you'll be attending?

Yes. We have a list, I'll make sure you get it.

END INTERVIEW.
