Polygraph Chat Room

Association buzz is worth the trip - Ralph Hilliard
(association seminars dates for 2004)

back to article index

No examiner should be an island unto themselves. As I
stated in the last issue, life is foremost about
relationships. Staying active in your state association
is one of the best ways to foster good relationships with
other examiners and stay accountable to the profession
itself.

I've heard many examiners say that the seminar itself
often has the same information over and over. There is
probably some truth to that and I would certainly
encourage association boards to put together some fresh
new topics for seminars. But the real gems of going
to a seminar are the buzz items that you hear about at
outside the training room. The little pieces of
information dropped in casual conversations around the
coffee table or other mingling spot. These gems are
ultimately what changes and shapes the polygraph
landscape over the long term.

The training sessions are what keeps the profession
solid, grounded and accountable. But the buzz is what
gives the industry its passion. Exchanging new
technologies, stories, techniques, court decisions,
business cards, cool polygraph websites ;) etc.
These are the reasons you enjoy the seminar.

We want to encourage all examiners to attend your state
association seminar this year. Get a refill of purpose
and passion for the profession this upcoming year.

Just in case you don't even know about your state
association, we have put together a list for you which
includes a contact person and, where possible, the dates
of the seminar for 2004 and approximate membership
numbers.

(we've included the national/international associations
as well)
